Experience-Dependent Brain Development in Children with ACEs
This work was a casual free-write assignment featuring commentary on experience-dependent brain plasticity as it pertains to children growing up with adverse experiences. It explores the neurobiological effects of abuse and neglect on children throughout childhood as a risk factor for psychopathology.
Culturally Informed Autism Treatment
As a woman of color living with Autism and a public health student, I find that there is a severe deficit in culturally informed programs in health care systems. However, this is particularly prevalent in diverse developmental disorders like Autism. I explore the need for these programs following a class discussion while also elaborating on current research and present deficits in such.
Addiction and Relapse
This work examines the cycles of addiction and relapse as a complex disorder rather than a deficit in self-control. It provides an analysis of substance use disorder within the brain and the communication between various parts while advocating for a better understanding of the neurobiological basis of addiction.Â
